Big Four Hitting Yankee Stadium on September 14, 2011

Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax—also known as the Big 4 of Thrash—have announced their second US show, which is set for September 14, 2011.  News of this East Coast performance is a wonderful way to start off the weekend.  However, there two sucky things about this announcement: For one, the show is being held on a Wednesday. Are you kidding me? Wednesday? This needs to be a Saturday event—a monstrous weekend metal bash.  That, my metal friends, is poor planning.  The second disappointing part is that the promoters chose a lousy venue for this event.

Okay, it is not the worst place to play, but there are certainly better East Coast options: I am surprised they did not opt for a venue like the New Meadowlands Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, which can accommodate over 30,000 more fans than Yankees Stadium (52,000); second, Yankee Stadium parking is awful. You can end up paying $40+ for parking in that part of the Bronx, which is criminal.

I know Scott Ian is a humongous Yankees fan, but playing The Stadium is not the best choice for the fans; many of whom will not even have the opportunity to find themselves a ticket to this smaller venue.  Another possible location would have been Randall’s Island which can hold about 70,000.  In all fairness, I’m hopeful that they will open up the field for thousands more; however, I have heard otherwise.

With all that being said, I am still super excited for the show and very thankful we are getting this East Coast date.  It’s not very often that New York fans get two visits from Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax in less than a year.

Tickets will go on sale Friday, May 6 on at 10:00 a.m.
