When Lemmy died, he left behind a legacy that can not be touched. Motörhead obviously called it a day after his passing, but they leave us with a 40-year catalog that pushed the limits and gave us 100% raw metal. Their influence helped shape many bands that include the mighty Metallica, Pantera, and Slayer. Under Covërs is a compilation of songs Motörheadized.

Opening with an ode to the metal gods Judas Priest, their version of “Breaking The Law” legitimately rivals the original. Lemmy doesn’t hit the high notes that Rob Halford delivers but he doesn’t have to. His growl holds its own.

A previously released version of Rainbow’s “Starstruck” is on here as well. This song is a duet with Saxon’s Biff Byford. Another untouchable singer (Dio) is also done right here.

I’ve always said that the three-piece Motörhead is one of the fullest sounding bands of all-time. The first single from the album is an amazing take of David Bowie’s “Heroes.” It’s a shame that both Bowie and Lemmy are gone and you definitely can feel the emotion in this track.

A nice tip of cap to the Ramones is on here as well as Motörhead tackles “Rockaway Beach.” The Ramones songs are technically easy to play but as we all know, the heart and the attitude needs to present. Something Motörhead never lacked.

There really isn’t one bad song on this album and I feel I’ll be listening to this daily from now on. A great selection and great sendoff from a metal giant that may be imitated but never duplicated. -NzaSixx
