The Indie Underworld is a growing community of independent hard rock and heavy metal artists from all over the world that originated on the Twitter social media platform. It was founded and organized by DemonScar over the past couple years.

The network started mainly by curating Spotify playlists like the Indie Underworld Rocks and Indie Underworld Presents.

During the pandemic the network decided to release a physical compilation cassette tape and CD called the Indie Underworld Mixtape. Volume 1 released on July 31st and features 15 tracks by 15 artists including:

Dead Eye Doll “Dead Eyed Generation”

Residual Self “Mistress of Pain”

Carmilla “Blood of Fire”

Sin Seer “If All Else Fails”

David HK “Onyx Sun”

Count Your Dead “Nonentity”

Shadow of Everest “The River”

Aron Scott Earthquake “High Speed Love”

Ukranium “Wrath”

Adam Hyman “Praying Mantis”

Creep Scene “Instara”

DemonScar “MDCXCII”

Indie Underworld Mixtape, Vol. 1: Metal & Hard Rock now available in digital & physical formats on Bandcamp and in playlist form on Spotify, YouTube, and IHeartRadio.

The whole project came together very quickly. “We reached out to bands we thought would be a good fit for the mixtape on the morning of June 29 and by late afternoon the compilation was full. We sold over 200 physical CDs in just two weeks leading up to the release on July 31,” said DemonScar in a statement.

This community of bands have all become good friends and loyal fans of one another’s work.

“Every day the bands are in contact with one another. We all provide any assistance we can, we ask for advice, we all exchange early mixes of our upcoming songs, we promote each other, and we set up shows together. We pretty much have each other’s back. Independent rock and roll music is not a competition. We are all stronger together and that’s probably the number one secret to our success,” said DemonScar.
